Brussels, Belgium, 25 February 2026 – The European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its 2026 Congress, which took place in Dublin, Ireland, from 3 to 6 February.
Bringing together more than 2,000 delegates from over 77 countries, the Congress served as a vibrant forum for international collaboration and scientific advancement. Under the presidency of Prof. Niamh O’Connell, the Congress delivered a comprehensive and forward-looking programme spanning factor replacement therapies, gene therapy, women’s health, non-factor treatment and the management of the ageing population with haemophilia.
This edition matched last year’s record-breaking achievement with more than 400 abstracts submitted, confirming the interest and commitment of the global haemophilia community to advancing research and innovation.
The event started on Tuesday, 3 February, with the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day. Tailored sessions for physiotherapists, nurses and psychosocial specialists encouraged cross-disciplinary dialogue and strengthened collaboration across the European and international AHP community. A highlight of the day was the joint session on family consultations, which explored three intergenerational themes through the perspectives of nursing, physiotherapy and psychosocial care, reinforcing the value of a patient-centred practice.
From 4 to 6 February, the main scientific programme took place.
Wednesday, 4 February opened with the traditional Multidisciplinary Educational Session, featuring an interactive session on successful ageing in haemophilia. Experts from across disciplines, including dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and haematology, offered practical insights into coordinated, lifelong care. A newly introduced oral communications session showcased investigator-led clinical and scientific research. Six concise presentations highlighted emerging data and novel approaches, underscoring the dynamism of the field. The programme also included well-attended satellite symposia and concluded with the Poster Networking Reception, providing delegates with the opportunity to engage directly with abstract authors and discuss the latest findings.
Thursday, 5 February addressed the evolving landscape of factor replacement therapy, advances in women’s health and modifiers of bleeding phenotype. One of the highlights was the EAHAD Lifetime Achievement Awards session, honouring the contributions of Erik Berntorp and Kathelijn Fischer.
Friday, 6 February, featured the ever-popular SLAM session delivering fast-paced, high-impact presentations, followed by in-depth discussions on gene therapy and non-factor treatments for haemophilia and allied disorders. A special moment was the commemoration of the centenary of von Willebrand Disease, during the Arosenius Lecture, delivered by James O’Donnell. The Congress concluded with the Gene Therapy and Non-Factor treatment sessions, and the Latest Clinical Trial Results session, offering delegates a detailed look at pivotal studies set to shape the next generation of therapies in haemophilia and allied disorders.
A feedback survey has been shared with all registered attendees. Upon completion, participants will receive their certificate of attendance. We greatly appreciate your insights!
We look forward to welcoming you to the 20th Annual EAHAD Congress, which will take place from 2 to 5 February 2027 in Brussels, Belgium, under the co-Presidency of Cedric Hermans and Thierry VandenDriessche.
