EAHAD 2024 Press Release

Brussels, Belgium, 22 February 2024 – The European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its 2024 Congress, held from February 6 to 9 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Boasting almost 2000 delegates from more than 70 countries and under the direction of Congress President Prof. Wolfgang Miesbach, EAHAD 2024 featured renowned speakers, cutting-edge research, and interactive presentations.

The meeting opened on Tuesday 6 with the Allied Health Professionals Day (AHP Day).

Sessions and presentations dedicated to physiotherapists, nurses and psychosocial professionals were shared with the European and International AHP community. The day featured an extended Joint Session on Non-factor Therapies. For the first time, more physicians as well as members of the pharmaceutical industry attended the AHP day, showing the increased interest in topics tackled by our AHP colleagues.

Notably, the Psychosocial Professional Committee held its first European Psychosocial Roundtable aimed at establishing European principles of psychology in new therapies starting from early in the morning.

From 7-9 February, the main scientific programme took place.

Wednesday 7 started with the Multidisciplinary Haemophilia Educational Session, focusing on multidisciplinary support for decision-making. This interactive discussion presented distinct scenarios, showcasing the efficacy and benefits of a comprehensive approach.

Different satellite symposia followed and the day closed with the Poster Networking Reception, with delegates browsing the poster area and having the chance to talk directly to the authors.

Thursday 8 showcased a vast array of interesting sessions and presentations. including the highly anticipated session on the impact of Artificial Intelligence. Attendees also gained insight into future non-factor therapies, long-term joint health and second-generation haemophilia gene therapy, and participated in two thought-provoking and interactive debates. The day concluded with the Lifetime Achievement Awards, featuring inspiring talks by 2024 recipients, Ulla Hedner and Kate Khair.

On Friday 9 we had the great pleasure to have EAHAD 2020 Congress President Prof. Karin Fijnvandraat deliver the Arosenius Presentation and share her insights into non-severe haemophilia. The day also hosted two EAHAD Congress staples: the always exciting SLAM session and the Latest Clinical Trial Results session.

With five top presentations, the LCTR session offered a deep dive into topics that have the potential to transform the future haemophilia and allied disorders landscape.

Feedback from delegates highlighted that the content presented during the whole week and especially on Friday was extremely packed, insightful, and proved that, if one wants to learn about the latest in this field, the EAHAD Congress is the place to be.

A week after the congress, we invited everyone to attend the EAHAD 2024 Virtual Round Up, chaired by Prof. Ana Boban and with recapping presentations by Dr Jan Blatny, Dr Robert Klamroth, and Prof. Miesbach.

We would like to thank everyone who joined and supported us since the beginning. Don’t forget that all content will remain available on the virtual platform for one month after the Congress dates. Soon after that, both the congress recordings and the Virtual Round Up will be uploaded to the EAHAD Academy.

A survey has been shared with all registered attendees. Upon completion, they will receive the certificate of attendance.

We look forward to seeing you at the 18th Annual Congress of EAHAD, to be held from 4 to 7 February 2024, in Milan, Italy.
