Visiting Manchester Central, EAHAD 2021 Congress venue

On 19 September, EAHAD representatives were in Manchester, UK, host city for our 2021 Congress. The delegation included EAHAD President, Prof Mike Makris, who will serve as Congress President for EAHAD 2021.

The visit centred on a trip to the congress venue, Manchester Central, located in the heart of the city. The venue was originally the Manchester Central railway station, one of the city’s main railway terminals, opening its doors in 1880. After 89 years as a railway terminal, it closed to passengers in 1969. In 1982, it was renovated as an exhibition centre and, in 2007, it reverted to its former name of Manchester Central. The building has retained many features from its previous incarnation, including a prominent station clock and a highly impressive vaulted arched roof, spanning 64 metres.

Just 20 minutes from the city’s international airport, 2 hours by train from London, and with a host of accommodation options in walking distance, Manchester Central will be ideal for our 14th annual meeting. We are positive that the venue will fully cover our needs for EAHAD 2021 and hope that our delegates will be impressed with the location of the centre and its adaptable facilities.

The trip to Manchester was also an opportunity to visit potential locations for the Congress networking event. This information is top-secret for now, but rest assured that we are committed to making it as memorable as previous events.
