EAHAD 2025 Congress Press Release

Brussels, Belgium, 18 February 2025 – The European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its 2025 Congress, held from 4 to 7 February in Milan, Italy.

With nearly 2,200 delegates from over 78 countries, the Congress, under the leadership of President Prof. Flora Peyvandi, provided an exceptional platform for scientific exchange. Attendees engaged with international speakers, cutting-edge research, and interactive presentations covering the topics of novel treatments, gene therapy, management of elderly patients with haemophilia, and the integration of artificial intelligence into care practices.

This year’s Congress also set a new record, with 422 abstracts submitted, reflecting the growing interest and commitment of the global haemophilia community to advancing research and innovation.

The event started on Tuesday, 4 February, with the Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Day. Dedicated sessions for physiotherapists, nurses, and psychosocial professionals fostered knowledge-sharing within the European and international AHP community. The day featured a Joint Session on Bleeding Disorders Through Life,. The AHP day drew increased interest from physicians and industry representatives and promises to become an integral part of future EAHAD Congresses.

From 5 to 7 February, the main scientific programme took place.

Wednesday, 5 February opened with the Multidisciplinary Educational Session, which included an interactive workshop on “Ultrasound: Joint Health in Haemophilia – where are we going”. Experts from different fields (AI expert, patient, nursing, physiotherapy, rheumatology, and medicine) provided diverse perspectives. The day continued with the satellite symposia and concluded with the Poster Networking Reception, where delegates engaged directly with authors to discuss the latest research.

Thursday, 6 February featured a wide range of insightful sessions on topics like the modern era of diagnosis and treatment, von Willebrand disease, and Gene Therapy. One of the highlights was the EAHAD-ISTH Joint Session on the Current and Rapid Developments around Novel Therapies. The EAHAD Research Grant Reports and the Lifetime Achievement Awards honoured 2025 recipients Monica Gobbi and David Lillicrap. Additionally, EAHAD awarded an Honorary Membership to Mike Makris for his unwavering dedication to our association.

On Friday, 7 February, the Congress had the great honour of welcoming Prof. Christopher Ludlam for the Arosenius Presentation, reflecting on EAHAD’s origins and its journey so far. The day also featured two signature EAHAD Congress sessions: the dynamic SLAM session and the Latest Clinical Trial Results (LCTR) session. With six outstanding presentations, LCTR provided a deep dive into groundbreaking research poised to transform the future of haemophilia and allied disorders care.

One week after the Congress, attendees were invited to join the EAHAD 2025 Virtual Round-Up, chaired by Prof. Jan Blatný, with recap presentations by Prof. Ana Boban, Prof. Flora Peyvandi, and Prof. Niamh O’Connell.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated and supported the event. We kindly remind you that all content remains accessible on the virtual platform for one month post-Congress, after which recordings of both the Congress sessions and the Virtual Round-Up will be available on the EAHAD Academy.

A feedback survey has been shared with all registered attendees. Upon completion, participants will receive their certificate of attendance. We greatly appreciate your insights!

We look forward to welcoming you to the 19th Annual EAHAD Congress, which will take place from 3 to 6 February 2026 in Dublin, Ireland, under the Presidency of Prof. Niamh O’Connell.
